Are you down to be kind and rewind for a stay in this nostalgia? Or worried about grabbing too many late fees?
Most Blockbuster Video's have been extinct across the nation for a decade now, but one hold out was the last store in Bend, Oregon. The 20-year-old store was just closed and re-opened as an amazing throwback of movie greatness. Who didn't have awesome memories going to Blockbuster in the 90's and picking out a great movie and some candy for a date night/family night? Now you can experience it again in a whole new way.
“The last remaining Blockbuster location on Earth” on August 17th will open it doors as an AirBnB rental, to allow people to experience a 1990s-style slumber party. Up to 4 people from the same family are allowed per stay. No friends visiting, no parties, no smoking, no drugs, no pets are allowed per the AirBnB rules. There are loads of classic movies to rent and hoards of candy on site too!
People are falling over each other to book nights and got excited to see the verified Blockbuster twitter stir the pot a little with it's first tweet since 2014. A simple "Just checking in", punctuated with a waving-hand emoji.
How amazing of a date night would this be?? I am completely in my memory feels right now!
The listing for the stay offers it for just $4, and says "our BLOCKBUSTER store is an ode to movie magic, simpler times and the sense of community that could once be found in BLOCKBUSTER locations around the world. Over the past few months, we’ve been missing the regular visits from friends, neighbors and tourists from around the world. So, we’re opening our store to three quarantine pods of Deschutes County guests for a socially-distanced movie night, just like those of decades past!"
They also claim that they will be making a donation to the Humane Society of Central Oregon with proceeds.
The hardest part for me, will be keeping my wife up long enough to see at least half of the movie.
