2 Dead, 15 Wounded in Shooting Outside Kansas City Bar

Two people were killed and 15 others wounded at a Kansas City bar that was hosting a celebration for the Chief's big victory Sunday.

Kansas City police responded to 9ine Ultra Lounge just before midnight Sunday where officers found the bodies of a man and a woman, a statement from the department said. At least 15 other victims showed up at local hospitals, with three people listed in critical condition.

Police say the shooter began firing at people standing in line outside the club, where it was hosting a sold out celebration party after the Kansas City Chiefs won the AFC Championship, claiming their spot in the Super Bowl. An armed security guard who works at the club, shot and killed the shooter outside the bar.

"We believe the shooter is the deceased adult male," a tweet from the Kansas City Police Department read. "The circumstances that lead to this shooting are unknown. Detectives and crime scene investigators will be collecting evidence and talking with witnesses to gather more information to see what lead to this shooting."

Mayor Quinton Lucas thanked the responding officers and everyone who kept the city safe Sunday night.

"Our greatest challenges remain even this morning in our community," Lucas said in a statement. "My thoughts are with the families and friends of those whose lives were lost or impacted by last night’s mass shooting. Thankful security appears to have kept the situation from being even worse."
